The IHT Landscape Is Changing: What It Means for You and Your Clients
Pensions have long played an important role in passing on wealth tax-efficiently. From 6 April 2027, however, most unused pension funds and death benefits will be brought within scope of inheritance tax, prompting advisers to revisit clients’ estate plans.
Join TIME Investments and ebi to explore the changing inheritance tax landscape, including the reforms to Business Relief, what they could mean for clients and how advisers can turn them into timely, valuable planning conversations.
Learning Objectives
1. Explain the key Business Relief and pension inheritance tax reforms taking effect in 2026 and 2027, and their implications for estate planning.
2. Assess how bringing most unused pension funds and death benefits into scope for inheritance tax may affect the role of pensions within clients’ estate plans.
3. Describe how Business Relief-qualifying investments may complement a broader investment portfolio, including the principal risks and eligibility considerations.
4. Identify clients whose estate plans may need to be reviewed, considering the reforms.
5. Apply the key considerations when discussing intergenerational wealth transfer and potential planning options with clients.
