Our investment philosophy
ebi’s investment philosophy is grounded in evidence-based investing — using academic research and empirical data to inform how portfolios are built.
A broad body of research, including work by Fama and French, shows that consistently outperforming markets through stock selection or market timing is difficult. This underpins the case for passive investing, where long-term outcomes are driven primarily by asset allocation and diversification rather than attempting to time markets.
A broad body of research, including work by Fama and French, shows that consistently outperforming markets through stock selection or market timing is difficult. This underpins the case for passive investing, where long-term outcomes are driven primarily by asset allocation and diversification rather than attempting to time markets.
Our portfolios are built with this in mind, focusing on:
• Global diversification
• Systematic portfolio construction
• Cost-efficient implementation
• Long-term investment discipline
Factor-based investing
Some ebi portfolios incorporate factor investing — a systematic approach that targets specific market characteristics that academic research has associated with differences in long-term returns.
Factor investing may not be suitable for all clients.
Investment solutions
Model Portfolio Service
Our evidence‑based Model Portfolio Service designed to help advisers outsource day‑to‑day investment management while maintaining robust portfolio governance.
Key features:
• Risk‑graded portfolios
• Systematic asset allocation
• Ongoing portfolio monitoring
• Discretionary investment management
• Access to investment team expertise
Portfolio ranges
ebi offers a range of cost-efficient portfolio suites in its MPS service designed for different client objectives and segmentations.
• Sustainability-focused options
• Factor tilted portfolios
• Market weighted portfolios
• A Liquidity focused solution.
Global Factor Fund of Funds
ebi’s Global Factor Fund of Funds range combines systematic factor investing with ESG screening in a single, diversified, unitised solution.
This approach provides exposure to factor-tilted, ESG-screened funds and may offer tax efficiencies compared with some model portfolio services.
Tax treatment depends on the individual circumstances of each client and may be subject to change in future.

Adviser‑driven technology
ebi provides technology tools designed specifically to support the financial planning process.
These include:
• Adviser portfolio analytics
• Client‑friendly reporting
• Portfolio monitoring tools
• Digital investment insights
Tolerance‑based rebalancing
ebi is recognised for its work in tolerance‑based rebalancing. Rather than rebalancing portfolios at fixed calendar intervals, portfolios are monitored continuously and only rebalanced when allocations drift beyond predefined thresholds.
This approach can maintain portfolio risk alignment, reduce unnecessary trading and improve portfolio efficiency.
Please note that tolerance-based rebalancing may occur more frequently than calendar-based rebalancing, depending on market conditions.
What advisers say

We feel reassured that clients are in safe hands with ebi.”
Tina, Lincoln
“I have been working with ebi for around 5 years and had some great support over that period. Their proposition has evolved alongside our own investment philosophy. Their ability to work really well with some of the best advisory platforms is a real benefit to us. I have recommended their investment services to my peers and will continue to do so.”
Richard, Bristol
